Rise up this mornin’,
Singin’ sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Saying, “This is my message to you”
Don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be alright.
Singing “Don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be alright!”

I can’t think of a happier song, can you?
I am so excited to be part of this year’s Sew In Tune series. I thought it was such a fun challenge to come up with a project based on a song.
This particular song by Bob Marley is special to me for a unique reason. I played it when giving birth to my oldest daughter. I remember when it was go-time, I told my husband to “Play the song!” I don’t know if it helped to relax me or not as its all a bit blurry but I always get a smile on my face when I hear this song, and it makes me think of becoming a mama for the first time.
I decided to make a cute little birdy dress for my little bird. Girly and pink. Perfect for February. I bought this adorable fabric from Sew Graceful, a fun Etsy shop with adorable fabric. It is called Mamma Birds in Violet, from Valori Wells Wrenly Collection. I love that it has a 3-bird motif.
I used a pattern for this dress, the Lizzy Dress by Shwin Designs, size 12-18 months. It fits my 14 month old perfectly. I chose to do the gathered skirt version, but added a ‘paperbag’ waist effect with pink tulle. I covered up the gathering stitches and where I sewed this layer onto the dress with a narrow grosgrain pink ribbon.
Let me tell you how much fun it was to sew up this cute pattern. I love the creative back/closure to this dress. Her instructions are great, and it really was quite a quick sew. I would definitely make this dress again.
Now go check out the series and see what other fun bloggers are making!
