4quarters and Exposed Elastic Skirt Mashup

Green Floral1 It’s National Sewing Month and what better way to celebrate than with  the Jo-Ann Sew Your Style Contest sponsored by Pellon?  Create a non-quilted, non-traditional project with quilters fabrics: ie, apparel, pencil cases, purses, etc.  I jumped at the chance to use these two darling quilter’s fabrics at Jo-ann to make myself another skirt.

This time, I fused my last two skirts ideas together for (glee fans will get this) ‘the ultimate mash-up’.  I used the pattern from my 4 quarters skirt {here} and finished it off with the exposed elastic tutorial I explained {here} green floral2 This is the easiest skirt in the book.  Simply:

-cut 4 of the pattern pieces: 3 of one fabric, and 1 of a contrasting fabric.

-Sew the 4 pattern pieces together as shown in the blue print in my 4quarters skirt post {here} (ps, you can add a fun trim like I did in the seam if you’d like)

-Follow the tutorial for the exposed elastic waistband {here}

– Serge around the top and bottom edges -Hem the bottom using a 1/4″ seam. green floral3
