A couple of months ago, Janome contacted me to see if I would be interested in trying out their newest sewing machine, the Skyline S7. Of course I said yes, and they sent it right over. Last year, I had the opportunity to try out the previous model, the S5. You can find my review here. The S5 was a great machine so I was excited to see the latest model.
The machine I normally sew on is a Juki HZL-F600. (Affiliate Link)
I really really love my machine. But I think I love the Skyline S7 more. Say what? It has some of the best features I have ever seen in a machine. Ones you actually use!
I sewed up a Manhattan Blouse (a dress version) by See Kate Sew, and a diaper cover by MADE. It was a baby gift for a friend’s baby shower. Boy did this machine work like a dream, and the Manhattan Blouse pattern was dreamy too. I used Cotton & Steel fabric, from Michael Levine and Hawthorne Threads.
1. Auto Threader
Auto threaders can be finicky. This one was perfect. Worked like a charm every time. Loved how easy it was to figure out, too. Super straight-forward.
2. Large Foot Pedal
Why is this the first foot pedal I have seen that is large? Your foot never misses it! It is SO GREAT! I am going to miss this when I send the machine back in a couple of weeks.
3. Automated Clothing Stitches
There is a button you press on your screen for all the stitches you might need when sewing clothing. Topstitching, gathering, etc. No changing stitch widths, it is all one press of a button! Magical. I used these a ton.
4. Embroidery Stitches
I easily stitched these tags (made out of a tiny strip of bias tape!) without any stabilizer or anything. The stitches were even and it didn’t eat the fabric.
