It has been so long since I bought a pattern and just sewed it up, just as written. Sometimes that is just the best kind of sewing for me. No pattern making, no wracking my brain to come up with the how-to. Just let someone else do all the hard work and I just reap the benefits.
Both of my kids were in need of some summer shorts that they will be able to wear to school when it starts in a few weeks. September and October are still really hot here where I live so no pants are needed until November. So I started to think about what kind of shorts I wanted to make.
For her, it was a no-brainer. I had been eyeing the Coachella Shorts Pattern for quite a while now so I was happy to buy it.
She is at the age where sewing for her is trickier than when she was little. She was very happy with the pattern and loves the trim aspect. The fit of the shorts was spot-on and the instructions are clear and concise. They came together very smoothly. I have another pair cut out and as soon as I can fit it into my crazy summer, I am going to make them. She is begging me to make this other pair.
For him, I decided on the Kid Shorts Pattern by MADE. I made the flat front with pockets option.
I liked that there are so many options, and they looked like they would be a quick and easy sew. I was right. Besides the fact that I made a dumb mistake and didn’t quite follow the directions which put me behind a bit, they were super fun and easy to sew. I made another pair in red that I shared on Instagram. I highly recommend this pattern. I did make one little alteration and tapered in the inside leg seam just about 1/4″.
I made both pairs of shorts out of cotton, which was so nice and easy to sew up. I don’t sew with it all that much anymore so it was so refreshing!
We decided to take the new shorts out for a spin, along with their new Chucks from Famous Footwear. We went to Ruby’s on the pier. We made a fun friday night date of it with the whole family.
I LOVE walking on piers- looking out over the beautiful ocean, seeing the fish being caught, seeing the surfers catch waves. I also love Ruby’s milkshakes so it was a win win summer activity.
The kids loved their new shorts, and really loved their new shoes. They didn’t really love all the pictures I took but they loved their milkshakes and it was a good bribe. Ha! I’m not kidding.
As for the shoes, they are such a great choice for kids. They are slip ons, so no dealing with tying laces. If your mornings (once school starts again) are anything like mine, tying laces is the last thing you want to worry about. They are stylish and cool.
