Little Dress Boutique

Attention Beginning Sewers: Here is a Down right Genius idea from JoAnn!  They have come out with this fantastic new product called Little Dress Boutique which are pre-cut dress kits.  Everything you need to make a darling dress, already cut and ready to go.  I don’t know about you, but when I was first learning to sew, the most intimidating thing for me was getting out the tissue paper pattern and cutting out the pieces, and making sure I put them on the fabric the right way, and cutting things out in the right direction.

These kits take all of that away, and leave you with the pieces ready to go.  The kit comes with the dress cut and ready to go, a package of 5″ strips for the ruffles, some fat quarters and some yardage to embellish.  This was the easiest, least stressful dress to make!

The directions that came with the kit are very simple and easy to follow, but they also have a website that you can look to for more helpful hints, and ideas to embellish.

My girls dresses are samples from the Haley Collection and I think they are so cute.  They got many compliments at school pick-up with their matchy dresses.  For a complete look of all of the dress choices available check out the Little Dress Boutique LookBook {here}

I didn’t embellish much on these dresses, because I did like the simple pillowcase idea and loved the ruffles and the bow on one shoulder.  I made Ivy’s dress first (my 6-year-old) and then was able to easily trim Scarlet’s down to fit her size.  The kit was able to fit size 3-7.  so, to make the dress fit My little one, here’s how I trimmed the front and back pieces down:

1: Trim 1 1/4″ from the top

2: Trip 3 ” off of the bottom

3. Trim 1″ off both sides

4. retrace the arm lines by re-drawing them an inch in on both sides.

By using my rotary mat and cutter, these few cuts make Scarlet’s dress fit perfectly!
