This week, I’ve been working on re-creating an outfit that my mom made for me when I was a little girl. Maybe 1990, gauging from the snaggle-teeth and the color of my glasses. (yep, that’ s me on the left…holy embarrassing!) As you can see, my mom made matching outfits for my older sister and I, and I just remember this outfit being my most favorite of all of my Christmas dresses. I felt so fancy in it; I couldn’t keep my hands or my eyes off my shirt. All of the little ‘ornaments’ on the tree were magical to me, and I loved wearing it! My mom worked hard on it (and she was a working momma) so I know she stayed up late at night to work on these outfits for us.
She recently gave me my tree. She had originally hand-stitched it to my sweater, and rather than saving the whole outfit, she saved just the tree. I thought this year, I’d make a duplicate for Ivy…
She was thrilled to wear it…She jingled when she walked…she kept thinking of excuses to stand up and go somewhere while we were at church…and my favorite that while she was sitting in Primary, while she was sitting very reverenly, she inspected each ornament quietly and carefully. It made my heart warm, and I can’t wait for my mom to see the pics of her in it!
May your gift giving this year bring you the same Joy as this gift has given to me!
