Tutorial: Side Split Skirt

I finally had a chance to cut into some of my new fabric from the LA shopping trip.
This particular fabric, which I bought at Angel Fabrics, is so fun.  It is very lightweight (almost chiffon-like) fabric, which was just what I wanted for this skirt.  I LOVE the print.  Kind of ikat, kind of tribal.  A perfect blend of the two, filled with colors that I love.

I am obsessed with the fun styles at Anthropologie right now, and was inspired by this skirt. I made mine a simple elastic waistband style. You could go shorter or longer with this skirt, as well, but I kind of liked this midi length.

Making this simple skirt out of this slippery material was good practice for me. I haven’t worked with this type of fabric in a long time and I really enjoy the finished product. 🙂

At first I was scared to tackle the hem, curved and slippery- but after following Justine’s tutorial for hemming sheer fabric, it was a breeze.
