Upcycled Magazine Rack

I saw a really cute vintage-y magazine rack at a boutique a while back.  I was really tempted to buy it, but couldn’t find a price on it, and there was no one in sight, so I walked on. I didn’t have buyers remorse, but that little rack stayed in my head and I kept thinking about how fun it would be to have an old magazine rack to put our library books in…and a few magazines that my kids like to look at.  We found one at Goodwill that we could spruce up a bit!  It’s not vintage-looking, like the one I saw at the boutique, but I still love it! Maybe it’s a fun/quick project for you to try, too!
The sucker at goodwill was just regular old wood…nothing special or fancy.  So, we primed it with spray paint…
and then put 23 coats of red paint.  (red is so annoying to paint with, but it’s so worth it when you’re done!) this is after 2 coats…can you see all the streaks?  grrr

I got my vinyl from my friend Kim at Remarkable Walls…she’s always awesome to design things for me when I only give her a couple of ideas.  After the vinyl, I put 2 coats of clear top coat.  Here’s my finished product…
